Since 2003, LOHF awards scholarships to deserving students who are beginning their nursing education, as well as students who are looking to advance their nursing careers in an effort to improve care for everyone in Lancaster County. During that time, we have given out more than $1.2 million in scholarship money, and we are pleased to continue to support nurses in our area as they begin or continue their education. This year, we invested $61,125 in the education of 28 local nursing students, and we are proud to highlight some of them in our Nurse Scholarship Story Spotlight. Check back each week leading up to The Extraordinary Give to get to know some of our 2016 recipients!
Not only did Hannah Good know she wanted to pursue a career path in nursing, but while her classmates were coasting through senior year, she began working towards her career goal. Hannah enrolled in a half-day career and technology program, taking two college courses and completing over 52 hours of clinical experience. “It takes a motivated and determined student to leave their own high school every afternoon during their senior year and attend the Career & Technology Center” one of Hannah’s teachers at the Lancaster County Career & Technology Center explains.
Hannah has been described as driven, intelligent, and caring, among other qualities. Her peers have noticed her natural ability and passion to care for others, “She is a volunteer for community programs… Hannah has traveled on a mission trip to Costa Rica. She received the National Honors Society Award and Earth Science Award. In addition, she is certified in Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens and HCP BLS. Hannah also holds down two jobs. As you can see her commitment to help others is a calling.”
As one of the recipients of the LOHF Nurse Scholarship, Hannah has proven that hard work and determination does pay off. Hannah has chosen to pursue her Registered Nurse (RN) degree at Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences.
